A Miraculous System Restore 3/22/06

Somehow I managed to lose my final project this afternoon while switching between my two user accounts. The file loss was most likely due to user error, but it makes me happy to blame MSWord. My office mate is a pretty experienced word user, so when he looked completely perplexed over the missing autorecovery files, and C: drive searches on *.tmp and *.doc failed to find my file, I had to confess that I had deleted them. Yes, word politley asked me if I would like to restore my file, and I said "Thank you very much, but I have all the files I need". As a last ditch effort, I remembered my Dad's system restore trick. In googling the steps however, I discovered a not-so-promising article about how system restore does not apply to word documents. I pretended that I didn't see this article, or thought that perhaps my computer was *special*, and went for the system restore anyway. Two nerve-wracking hours later my computer finished the restore process, and Voila! there was my file! When I opened word, it was listed in the autorecover toolbar. So, just in case anyone else owns a *special* computer, or is need of recovering from damaged system files, here's how to auto restore in Windows XP:

Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts.

Now if only there was a system forward to produce the final draft...

Agassi Presson 5/1991-3/2006

Agassi Presson collapsed from heart failure on 3/6/06 while playing in the yard. While he will be greatly missed, we take comfort in knowing that he'd lived a full life, and died doing what he loved most. He will be fondly remembered for his enthusiasm for tennis, his mock cat killing show, inviting himself into the neighbor's house when we appeared to be going on vacation, and jumping on the ping pong table to intercept and crush our ping pong balls.

Agassi was very fortunate to have been taken in by the Dunn's when we moved to a tennis courtless condo complex. He lived the last years of his life joyously digging another trench around a new tennis court. Agassi is notably survived by Dottie, Oreo, and his favorite human, Steve. He had a unique, easy-going personality and loved to make us laugh. We will miss you Aggy.

3/6 Accident at La Cienega and Rodeo at 11:15pm

A jeep cherokee pulled out of the 7-eleven into an oncoming sedan. The sedan was totaled and the side of the cherokee got completely smashed in. Fortunately, everyone was ok, although the cherokee driver was stuck. Several people rushed to help, and I called 911. The fire department was there in less than 5 minutes and went to work at prying the man out of his car.
